Description

Botanical Inks by Babs BehanJoin Babs Behan, author of the newly published book, Botanical Inks: Plant-To-Print Dyes, Techniques and Projects and founder of Botanical Inks natural dye studio in England, for a 1-day intro workshop to bundle dyeing with flowers and plant materials.

Bundle dyeing is an innovative process which bypasses the need for the dye pot, allowing for the direct transfer of plant dyes and their herbal qualities into cloth. With plant vinegars, steam, a variety of simple fold and bind techniques and a range of different plant and mineral mordants, a range of patterns and colours can be achieved.

Along with gaining a new skill which you can repeat again for yourself, using simple kitchen equipment, you will learn about natural dyes, non-toxic mordants and how to create different effects with the eco-printing techniques. You will also take away with you a range of samples and a beautiful natural dye eco-printed silk cloth. All materials are included in the cost.

Each student will receive a signed copy of the new Botanical Inks: Plant-To-Print Dyes, Techniques and Projects book.

We will have a potluck lunch, giving everyone time to socialize with the instructor and fellow students.

What to bring:

  • Something to share for the potluck lunch
  • Personal beverages and snacks
  • Layered clothing for variations in weather
  • Notebook and camera if desired
